5 Signs Your Business Signage Needs a Refresh

Signage doesn't wear out on a schedule, so it's easy to stop noticing your own sign has started working against you. Here are five signs it's worth a second look.

1. The colors have faded

UV exposure fades vinyl and paint over time, especially on south- and west-facing signs. Faded colors read as closed or abandoned to someone driving by, even when you're open.

2. Sections are dark or flickering

Burnt-out bulbs or failing LED modules leave dark patches or a flicker that's more noticeable than the sign was in the first place. If part of your name goes dark at night, that's the version of your sign most people actually see.

3. The branding is out of date

A rebrand, a new logo or a color change doesn't count until the sign matches it. Mismatched signage undercuts a rebrand you already paid for.

4. Tenant panels don't match who's actually there

On multi-tenant pylon and monument signs, the panel list should match the businesses actually in the center. Empty white panels or the name of a business that moved out both make the whole sign look neglected.

5. It's dented, cracked or visibly patched

Storm damage, vehicle strikes and age all take a toll on cabinets and panels. A visible repair patch draws more attention than the sign was supposed to.

Refacing an existing structure is often faster and less expensive than a full replacement, since the sign's frame and electrical are usually still in good shape. If any of the above sounds familiar, send us a photo and we'll tell you honestly whether a reface or a rebuild makes more sense.
